Woolworth Theatre is proud to announce Beyond the Counter: Conversations on Civil Rights, Culture, and Community, a monthly residency that transforms one of Nashville’s significant historic landmarks into a space for dialogue, education, and reflection.
The Woolworth, once the site of the 1960’s lunch counter sit-ins, will feature a series of educational conversations centered around the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement with rotating historians, educators, and community leaders. Each panel will be moderated by Elliott Robinson, keeper of the Civil Rights Room at the Nashville Public Library. The inaugural season includes four conversations highlighting defining moments and voices from Nashville’s Civil Rights story:
- The Lunch Counter Sit-Ins: Wednesday, September 23, 2026
- Sounds of Freedom with Jefferson Street Sound Museum: Wednesday, October 21, 2026
- Glory & Gospel with The Museum of Christian & Gospel Music: Wednesday, January 27, 2027
- Nashville’s Student Leaders: Wednesday, February 24, 2027
“Beyond the Counter reflects our commitment to honoring the legacy of this historic space while creating meaningful opportunities for education and connection.
